Casey Demons had a tough away trip at Preston with the Northern Blues leading from start to finish

The Casey Demons were forced into turnovers and ineffective possessions proved decisive as the Northern Blues ran away with a 14.14 (98) to 6.7 (43) win at Preston City Oval. Northern Blues got off to a quick start with the opening goal inside the first few minutes. The home side were effective in locking the ball in the forward half as Casey struggled to get some run and carry. The Northern Blues kicked two more unanswered goals to close out the first term with a 21-point lead. The Blues had 17 inside 50s to five in the opening quarter. James Harmes had 11 possessions in the first term as Alex Neal-Bullen had nine.

Casey began the second term brighter with Jay Kennedy-Harris kicking the first goal of the day for the visitors. The Demons got a chain of effective possessions going but it wasn't going their way with back-to-back posters before the Northern Blues scored a goal against the run of play. Bayley Fritsch added a speckie on the wing to the highlights reel. The game heated up after Dennis Armfield was given a retake for his miss as he goaled in the square. The pressure went up a notch but the Blues still closed the term out with two goals to lead by 39 points at the main change. Alex Neal-Bullen (21) and James Harmes (20) continued to lead the possessions at half-time.

The home team continued their dominance into the second half with five unanswered goals in the third term. Bayley Fritsch added a major back for the Demons late on in the quarter. The Northern Blues had 49 more possessions in the third quarter. Jay Kennedy-Harris eight possessions and Angus Scott seven were busy around the contests in the third quarter. The Blues lead by 65 points at three quarter time.

Casey scored the first of the final term with Bayley Fritsch kicking his second goal for the game. After conceding shortly after, the Demons kicked back-to-back goals for the first time of the day with Sean Dwyer and Bayley Fritsch the scorers. Both teams closed the game out with goals each as Alex Neal-Bullen was rewarded for a strong showing with the final goal of the game. Neal-Bullen kicked one goal from 35 possessions and also applied five tackles. The Northern Blues secured a 55-point win at home.

James Harmes had 41 possessions to be among the bests for the Demons while Neal-Bullen (35) also had plenty of the ball. Jay Kennedy-Harris had 25 touches and a goal while Bayley Fritsch kicked three goals for the game.

After a stretch of three away games in a row, Casey Demons will return home next Saturday Night with a blockbuster clash against Port Melbourne at Casey Fields.
