It was a perfect start to the game for the Demons with Sam Weideman kicking the opening two goals of the game. Box Hill's first real chance inside 50m came 18 minutes into the term when they kicked their first goal. Back-to-back goals from either side with Bayley Fritsch the scorer for Casey, had the Demons leading late on in the opening quarter. Sam Weideman finished the term how he started it, two successive goals to finish the opening term resulting in four first-term goals. Casey went into the quarter-time break with a 5.1 31 to 2.1 13 lead. Mitch White was running hot in the first quarter with 13 touches with Jay Kennedy-Harris trailing him with 10.

Sam Weideman continued off where he left the first quarter with the opening major of the second to bring up a bag (5 goals) just five minutes into the second. The Box Hill Hawks were reeling and needed something after some Weideman magic. Hawks kicked three straight goals in six minutes to reduce the margin. Mitch Gent kicked a beautiful shot against the run of play to give the Demons a 17-point lead at half-time. Mitch White was the leading possession getter at the break with 20 while Kennedy-Harris 17 and Kennedy 17 had big halves.

The intensity lifted after half-time with both sides coming out firing, Box Hill kicked three of the first four goals of the second half as the margin was sliced to under a goal. Bayley Fritsch was the goal-scorer for Casey, dribbling through one against the momentum. Casey closed the third quarter out with three consecutive goals as the lead went out to 22 points with one term remaining. Bayley Fritsch bobbed up for his second of the term while Angus Scott added his name to the list and Mitch Cox kicked a set-shot after the siren. Jay Kennedy-Harris had leather poisoning in the third with 16 possessions.

The Hawks needed early goals to threaten the Demons and were gifted one when Tyrone Vickery kicked straight. Eddie Morris kicked a sensational goal from the boundary for Casey just minutes later as chances began to run dry for Box Hill. Tyrone Vickery kicked two goals in two minutes to pull Box Hill within striking range. Casey remained composed and instead of dropping, rose to the occasion to kick the final two goals of the game. Angus Scott made the most of his opportunity and kicked truly while the final goal went deservedly through Sam Weideman in the square. The late goals gifted Casey a promising 26-point win against the ladder leaders.

Jay Kennedy-Harris put in yet another man-of-the-match performance with 39 possessions. Ben Kennedy (36) and Dean Kent (35) were engines and gave him some handy contributions. Sam Weideman kicked six goals (four in the first quarter) while Bayley Fritsch kicked three.
